Finland to Assist in Mapping of Mines in Zambia
Zambia and Finland have strengthened their partnership through a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) on Geological Data Quality Assurance.
The Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Mines and Mineral Development, Dr. Kabeta, and the Director General of the Geological Survey of Finland (GTK), Mr. Kimmo Tiilikainen, signed the MoU to enhance the quality control and assurance of data generated from Zambia’s nationwide high-resolution geophysical aerial survey.
The MoU is also an important step in the strategic partnership between the EU and Zambia to develop critical raw materials value chains.
Dr. Kabeta, Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Mines and Minerals Development, stated, "The MoU marks a significant step in our ongoing efforts to modernise Zambia’s mining sector… This partnership will not only enhance transparency and accountability in the management of our country’s mineral resources but also boost investor confidence."
Ms. Saana Halinen, the Ambassador of Finland to Zambia, added, “Finland has a lot of expertise in geological mapping and mineral exploration. GTK supplies high-quality services and research in these areas, which are crucial for reaching the Zambian government's goals of increasing production in the mining sector.”
This partnership underscores Zambia’s commitment to leveraging support from cooperating partners with cutting-edge technologies and international expertise to advance its mining and mineral exploration activities.
“Through this partnership, Zambia and Finland seek to continue exploring further opportunities for cooperation in geoscientific research and innovation.” Said the Ministry of Mines and Mineral Development on Facebook.
