HH Praised by Former Education Minister for University Student Meal Allowances
Former Minister for Education Michael Kaingu has congratulated President Hichilema’s government on continuing to provide meal allowances to university students.
“If you are hungry, you cannot concentrate, isn’t it? Yes. If you are hungry, you can’t concentrate. You must eat for you to read and concentrate, and perform… I want to congratulate the government for continuing with meal allowances. It’s not even debatable. Students must be well-fed to concentrate,” said the former minister on Wednesday 16.
Kaingu’s congratulations come days after UPND Secretary General Batuke Imenda explained how a lack of meal allowances in the past affected the performance of university students.
“Hakainde Hichilema is transforming the education sector by realising that the only way the country in the world can develop is only through education… he recognises the importance of meal allowances. Meal allowances talk about nutrition, only those who are in good health can perform well in school,” the UPND Secretary-General told reporters.
Last Wednesday, President Hichilema relaunched construction at some of Zambia’s premier learning institutions where projects to improve accommodation had stalled, leaving learners with inadequate and often crowded living spaces.
These recent developments highlight the New Dawn government’s ongoing commitment to strengthening Zambia’s higher education sector and ensuring every child has the best start in life.
