U-17 AFCON In Zambia?
With the Confederation of African Football (CAF) cancelling the U-17 Africa Cup of Nations early last week due to fears around COVID-19 within Morocco several nations have taken this as an opportunity to host the tournament themselves, including Zambia.
The Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) General Secretary Adrian Kashala wrote a letter to the CAF only two days after the tournament was cancelled, stating that they were interested in hosting the tournament on the original allotted dates.
The letter continued in stating “We firmly believe that we shall be up to the task drawing our strength from having successfully hosted the U-20 Afcon tournament in 2017 followed by the U-20 COSAFA tournament in 2019. We submit for your consideration and additional guidance as may be required”.
Zambia was due to play Morocco, Uganda and the Ivory Coast after qualifying to represent the COSAFA region along with South Africa in the tournament.
The FAZ have provided an update today that the CAF have not yet formally given them a response.
