TP Mazembe Team Attacked by DR Congo Fans

TP Mazembe Zambian defender Kabaso Chongo is nursing a head injury following an attack on the team on Wednesday in the Democratic Republic of Congo.

The side were playing FC Sanga Balende in Mbuji Mayi in a match on Wednesday in which the final score was 1-0 to the Zambian side.

The only goal of the match was scored in the final few minutes. This displeased the hosts’ supporters which resulted in the throwing of stones at the Mazembe entourage.

The attack resulted in four of the players being injured, including Mr Chongo.

Speaking after the incident, Chono said “I am still in a lot of pain. I can’t say when exactly I will be back in training but I will need a few days to recover”.

The match was played as part of the Linafoot League, in which TP Mazembe currently place third, four points ahead of the DRC side Sanga Balende following yesterday’s win.
