Fashion Sakala Hunting New Goals
Fashion Sakala of Zambia has recently been signed by British team Glasgow Rangers after turning down several other job offers.
The 24-year-old striker recently moved from Belgian club KV Oostende to join the newly-crowned champions, Glasgow Rangers.
In a recent interview with Kennedy Gondwe, Sakala revealed his humble beginnings.
“Honestly, I come from a very poor family and it was very difficult for us to survive. For us to survive I was the one who was killing animals in the bush,” Sakala said.
He revealed that he carried out this practice for 7 years up until he was 16 years old, playing football in the afternoon when he got the chance.
Sakala’s interest in football saw him bag a spot on the national team, enabling them to win the Under-20 Africa Cup of Nations on home soil in 2017.
He has since played for Oostende, scoring 16 goals in 33 league appearances last year before moving to Glasgow Rangers last month.
On speaking with Stephen Gerrard, manager of Glasgow Rangers, Sakala said that the team knew exactly how he would fit in.
“What attracted me to Rangers was how the coach explained what he wanted from me. Gerrard talked to me like a real man. I knew he could help me in my career.”
