Five Zambian Athletes Remain In Olympics
Five Zambian athletes remain in the Tokyo Olympics following featherweight boxer Everisto Mulenga’s recent loss against Ceiber David Avila Segura of Colombia.
Having started the Olympics with several chances at winning a medal, Zambia have so far lost the Copper Queens, two boxers and judoka Steven Mungandu out of their original team.
Remaining athletes will be competing in boxing, athletics and swimming over the coming week.
Although chances of obtaining a medal are now far slimmer than previous for Zambia, they are not impossible, as swimmers Tiika Paljik and Shaquille Moosa hope to obtain a medal for their country.
“To the remaining athletes, Zambia is behind you and stay focused as we still have a chance for medals at the games,” National Olympics Committee of Zambia president Alfred Foloko said.
