Zambia’s Olympics Come To An End
Team Zambia’s Olympic journey came to and end this week after sprinter Sydney Siame failed to qualify for the next round of the mens 200m.
Sydney clocked 21.01 seconds in the first round, finishing fourth in his heat which was won by Knighton Erriyon of America who passed the finish line less than half a second before Siame.
As Team Zambia’s athletes have slowly been returning home after their events at the Olympics, Siame was the last athlete from the country to still be in the running for a potential medal after fellow runner Rhoda Njobvu failed to qualify for the next round on Monday morning.
The Olympics have, however, been a success for the country, as Shepolopolo made their Olympic debut this year, with captain Barbra Banda scoring two hat-tricks. They were Africa’s sole representative in the Games for women’s football after defeating Women’s World Cup qualifiers Cameroon in a play-off.
