U20's Beat South Sudan Ahead of AFCON
Zambia’s Under-20 football (U20) team beat AFCON newcomers South Sundan on Monday, just four days after landing in Egypt for the international tournament.
The match, which was held prior to the AFCON tournament starting on February 19th, saw young Chipolopolo win 3-0, a positive start to their time in Egypt following two recent losses during their West-African tour. The losses came as Nigeria beat them 4-2 and Senegal secured a win of 1-0.
Zambia’s U20 coach Chisi Mbewe has praised his team for the improved progress ahead of the tournament.
“There was a lot of focus and a log of fighting spirit that I think the boys were looking forward to in this game,” Chisi said.
After admitting that the losses impacted on the spirits of the team, Chisi noted that “We are really happy as a technical staff because it brings confidence in the players as we go into the tournament.”
Goals in the game against South Sudan were scored by Rickson Ng’ambi, Julius Kumwenda and Kingston Mutandwa. Their first match at U20 AFCON is on February 21st against Benin.
