Army Commander Promotes Copper Queens Players Following Olympics Qualification
Army Commander, Lieutenant General Sitali Alibuzwi, has promoted six Copper Queens players following the team’s win over Morocco, which won them a place at the 2024 Paris Olympics this summer.
Striker Barbra Banda, forward Rachael Nachula, and defender Anita Mulenga have been promoted from their previous roles as Sergeants to Staff Sergeants. Midfielder Ireen Lungu has risen from Corporal to Sergeant.
Defenders Martha Tembo and Lushomo Mweemba were also promoted, advancing from Lance Corporals to Corporals.
In addition to this promotion, each player will receive a gift of K5000.
Speaking at the ceremony, Commander Alibuzwi said, “It was a moment of joy when we qualified.”
Captain Banda thanked Commander Alibuzwi, saying that the promotions have “motivated me and the team to keep working hard.”
