Majority Of Covid-19 Cases Still From Lusaka And Copperbelt
More than 70% of Covid-19 cases in Zambia still come from Lusaka and Copperbelt provinces, the Ministry of Health has announced. Despite this the pandemic has in fact spread to almost every other part of the country.
Health Minister Dr Chitalu Chilufya has consequently ordered employers to encourage working from home in order to minimise contact between employees and limit the spread of the virus.
During yesterday’s coronavirus briefing, Dr Chilufya announced that a further 233 cases of Covid-19 had been confirmed over the last 24 hours, bringing the total number of cases in Zambia to 6,580.
The total number of deaths recorded currently stands at 171.
The news comes after crowds in Lusaka were criticised for gathering at the official opening of the Chawama Flyover Bridge on the Kafue Road.
Video footage shared on social media showed many hundreds of Zambians gathered to see President Lungu commission the new bridge. The president seemingly made no effort to disperse the crowds.
