Lusaka To Become An Environmentally Friendly City - Mayor

Chilando Chitangala, Mayor of Lusaka, says the local government is dedicated to ensuring that the capital city is responsive to addressing the consequences of climate change by encouraging measures that promote a green environment.

Ms. Chitangala said her 'Plant a Tree with the Mayor' campaign aims to plant 300,000 trees in Lusaka by the end of the year, with 1,600 trees already planted.

“I will always support any initiative meant to promote the keep Zambia clean, green, and healthy campaign. Let us own this campaign by our environment clean green, and healthy,” said the Mayor.

Ms. Chitangala highlighted her delight that a number of stakeholders, including Deloitte Touche and partners, had come on board to support the effort.

She stated that climate change concerns should be of concern to all Zambians, and that solutions to the problem should be pursued.
