Government Equips Five Farming Centres in Northern Province

The government has set up five Centres of Excellence for agriculture mechanisation in Northern Province to boost regional productivity.

To promote mechanisation, the centres have been fully equipped with agricultural equipment such as tractors, harrows, disks, planters, and other farming implements.

Northern Province Permanent Secretary Bernard Mpundu told ZNBC that the equipment had already been delivered to the five centres to promote the use of advanced equipment in agriculture in the region.

Mpundu said, “The government has purchased all the necessary farming implements, tractors, disks and everything, and these are lying here in Kasama, Kasama, Luwingu, Mungwi, Mbala and Mporokoso Districts.”

Levy Ngoma, the Special Assistant to the President for Political Affairs, said that the coming season would see “a huge bumper harvest coming from this area of the country; the FIA should prepare adequately to mop up the grain to come.”

In Luapula, rain is falling almost daily, and several farmers have laid fertiliser acquired through the Farmer Input Support Programme (FISP). Ngoma said he is impressed with the amount of rainfall and the growth of maise planted in Luapula, Muchinga and Northern Provinces.
