Korean Waste Recycling Company Hopes to Operate in Zambia

Sinyang Technology, a South Korean company which delivers waste recycling has indicated it hopes to extend its services to operate within Zambia.

Zambia’s ambassador to South Korea, Andrew Banda visited the company’s facility on 25 July. The company’s CEO, Gun Lee expressed to Mr Banda that they were ready to work together in resolving environmental challenges which were aggravated by poor waste management.

Zambia currently generates around 1.3 million tonnes of waste per year, however only 10% of this waste is disposed of properly. Addressing the issue also presents an opportunity for the government to consider alternative and more advanced practices of waste management. These could include waste to energy projects, incineration or gasification.

Mr Banda said that the government were keen to focus on environmental issues particularly in urban areas. Sinyang Technology’s services could be beneficial to Zambia’s progress in resolving environmental challenges, by manufacturing and installing waste recycling facilities.
