Government to Repair 14 Hospital Elevators

Government has set out plans to repair 14 elevators at University Teaching Hospital in Lusaka, making K2.8 million available for vital repairs.

Speaking at a visit to UTH, Minister of Health Elijah Muchima said that the hospital’s facilities had been left to deteriorate for years and that he was determined to improve the standard of healthcare services across the country. UTH has already engaged ZAL Elevators Ltd. and Schindwe Elevators to carry out the repairs.

During the same visit, Ministry of Health Permanent Secretary Christopher Simoonga said that a further K2.5 million has been set aside for improvements at Kitwe Central Hospital.

Since taking office, the New Dawn government has taken concrete steps towards improving healthcare across the country, such as hiring an additional 14,000 healthcare workers. The Ministry of Health has also built more than 62 maternity annexes since 2021.
