HH Promises To Announce Cabinet Picks This Week

President Hakainde Hichilema has promised to announce his cabinet appointments later this week, as well as deliver his first address to the National Assembly as head of state.

In a tweet, the president said Zambians could also expect “other progressive pronouncements” ahead of his maiden speech at 10 o’clock on Friday to officially open the National Assembly.

So far HH has already sworn in Situmbeko Musokotwane as finance minister and has also appointed a number of key defence and security chiefs. The president also presided over the approbation ceremony which saw Nelly Mutti elected as speaker of the house - the first woman in Zambia to hold the position.

However, the president has made it clear he does not intend to rush government decisions, instead choosing to base his choices on data, analysis and a well orchestrated execution of the UPND’s vision.

Sources close to Mr Hichilema say he is a very meticulous person who does not take decisions lightly.

“He will let you say all you want before he gives you his line of thought. He is a patient listener and will not interject you as you speak,” a source close to the president told Lusaka Times.
