Government declares Friday a Public Holiday For RB's Funeral
Minister of Infrastructure, Housing and Urban Development, Charles Milupi expects his ministry's employees working on the late President Rupiah Banda's burial site to do a good job.
President Hakainde Hichilema, according to Mr. Milupi, hopes to see a suitable burial site fitting for the late former Zambian President.
Mr. Milupi has also directed his Permanent Secretary, Eng. Danny Mfune, to ensure that a thorough job is done because the late President Banda's state funeral is expected to be attended by a number of dignitaries, including international heads of State and Government.
“President Banda did a lot for this country and preparing a good final resting place for him is the least that we can do. I expect to see a good job done here.” Hon. Milupi said.
Zambia’s former President Rupiah Banda, who died on Friday, March 11th, will be buried on Friday, March 18th at the Presidential burial site at the Embassy Park.
Meanwhile, President Hichilema has announced Friday, March 18, 2022, to be a Public Holiday.
President Hichilema issued the announcement under the Public Holidays Act, Cap 272 of the Laws of Zambia, according to a statement from the Cabinet Office.
The declaration is intended to permit a proper State Funeral and Burial for the late Mr. Rupiah Bwezani Banda, the Fourth President of the Republic of Zambia.
