President Hichilema Returns To Zambia And Pledges US$2 Billion Investment In Renewable Energy

President Hakainde Hichilema has pledged to invest US$2 billion into renewable energy.

The plan will add 2000 megawatts to the national grid and has already been signed between ZESCO and Masdar.

Masdar, also known as Abu Dhabi Future Energies, is a state-owned company operating within the UAE which works to actualise large-scale renewable energy projects.

The investment will fund solar panels across Zambia and with sites for the panels currently being identified.

The president announced the plans upon his arrival at Kenneth Kaunda International Airport yesterday.

He outlined that the specificities of the plan were being finalised during his trip to United Arab Emirates (UAE).

He also said that a team had stayed behind to work on the implementation of the plan.
