President Hichilema Commissions Hospitals in Copperbelt

President Hakainde Hichilema has this week commissioned and handed over the newly constructed District Hospital in Chililabombwe and the Chamboli and Chimwemwe Level 1 Hospitals in Kitwe.

Speaking on the occasion the President stated, “Our government is committed to delivering services that ensure better lives for our citizens. We prioritize providing healthcare close to the community, and these hospitals embody this promise. They will be beacons of hope, where healing takes place, lives are saved, and hope is restored.”

“These hospitals will offer a range of services, including outpatient care, antiretroviral therapy, maternity services, physiotherapy, dental services, ophthalmology, laboratory services, radiology with state-of-the-art CT scan machines, emergency/casualty units, theatre services, and in-patient services,” he continued.

The President also thanked the governments of Japan and the UK for their funding of the Chamboli and Chimwemwe Level 1 Hospitals.

Meanwhile, President Hichilema has directed Minister of Health Elijah Muchima to ensure all health facilities have maternity wings. The New Dawn government has set itself the goal of reducing maternal mortality rates from 278 deaths per 100,000 births to 100 deaths per 100,000 by 2026. In support of this ambition the government has already constructed 62 maternity annexes, with plans to construct an additional 30 in 2024.
