President Guest of Honour at Likumbi Lya Mize Traditional Ceremony

President Hichilema will today be the guest of honour at the Likumbi Lya Mize traditional ceremony, which is the first to take place in five years as a result of succession disputes.

Celebrations commenced on Wednesday of last week and are building up to the Mize day on Monday when his royal highness Musongo Wa Ndungu will appear in public in his royal garments for the first time this year.

According to the Minister for North Western Province Robert Lihefu the ceremony has been cleared to go ahead by the courts and the Minister confirmed the President’s planned appearance as guest of honour and encouraged the public to show up in numbers.

The President’s appearance comes just two weeks after he graced the Lunda Lubanza in the same district where he was also the guest of honour. There, he emphasised the importance of cultural unity during the 60th anniversary of Zambia's independence, as well as hardships faced as a result of the ongoing drought.
