Cameroon Ready for CHAN 2020

Total CHAN 2020 kicks off in 4 weeks times. The tournament will take place from 16 January to 7 February 2021, having been reschedule from April 2020. The Indomitable Lions of Cameroon will open the event against Zimbabwe at the Ahmadou-Ahidjo Stadium in Yaoundé at 4 p.m. GMT.

Ahead of its start the CAF Executive Committee has confirmed that hosts Cameroon are ready for the tournament, having built two new stadiums in recent years and upgraded two existing stadiums. CAF President Constant Omari has praised the quality of the country’s sporting infrastructure following a recent inspection that took place in October. 

The matches will take place as four stadiums across three host cities - Yaoundé, Douala and Limbe. Cameroon is also set to host the next Africa Cup of Nations scheduled for 2022. 

Zambia’s Chipolopolo are in Group D, alongside Tanzania, Guinea and Namibia. The Group D matches will take place at the Stade Omnisports in Limbe.

Group A consists of hosts Cameroon, Zimbabwe, Mali and Burkina Faso. Group B will see Libya, Niger, DRC and Congo clash, while Group C pits Morocco, Togo, Rwanda and Uganda against one another.

Morocco are the defending champions

According to CAF the authorities are now deploying for the final adjustments. Special security measures have been planned, with the government set to deploy police and ensure security and discipline around the sites.
