Chipolopolo Manager Search Progressing Well, Says FAZ President
FAZ President Andrew Kamanga says that the governing bodies of Zambian football are closing in on the appointment of the new national team coach.
FAZ started their search for the new Zambia last month, after letting go of interim coach Beston Chambeshi following an unspectacular stint in charge.
Mr. Kamanga addressed the topic in his weekly column, saying that the process of hiring the new manager is “in full swing with key stakeholders fully engaged.”
Kamanga added that it is the hope of FAZ to secure a manager for the long-term future of Chipolopolo, and swiftly.
“On the national team side of business, we are closing in on the appointment of the senior men’s national team coach. The process is in full swing with key stakeholders fully engaged and hopefully we can have a long-term steward of the Chipolopolo ship in place soon,” Kamanga wrote.
“We are mindful of the urgency of this matter and are giving it our full attention. Our aim is to do better next year for all our national teams,” the football president added.
Zambia has not had a permanent coach since firing Serbian-born coach Milutin ‘Micho’ Sredjovic in July.
Aljosa Asanovic, who recently served as Chipolopolo technical advisor, is currently the favourite to land the top coaching job.
Whoever does end up taking over from Chambeshi will need to improve on the AFCON qualifying performances of their predecessors, and work out how to get the best out of an exciting young team.
