Zambian Judoka Steven Mung’andu Wins Gold at African Games
Zambian judoka Steven Mung’andu has won a gold medal at the African Games. The 28-year-old Olympian defeated Aziz Harbi of Tunisia in the Men’s 66 kg Final, becoming the first Zambian judoka to reach a final and win gold.
Mung’andu’s gold was the second medal of the day, with fellow judoka Simon Zulu receiving a bronze medal in the 60 kg category against Nigeria’s Michael Agbo. Both Mung’andu and Zulu are currently on a scholarship in Budapest, Hungary.
Zambia has won 3 medals so far, with swimmer Mia Phiri winning bronze in the women’s 50 m backstroke on Monday.
Ghana is hosting this year’s African Games, which will continue until 23 March. 8 athletes from the games will qualify for the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris this July.
