FAZ Addresses Corruption Concerns Amid FIFA Threat
The Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) released a statement addressing concerns of corruption within the organisation, which could potentially lead to a ban from FIFA.
In a statement, FAZ acknowledged the recent upheaval, including the halting of its annual general meeting by a court order following FAZ President Andrew Kamanga’s recent charges of money laundering. The association expressed their commitment to resolving the crisis and ensuring compliance with both national and FIFA regulations.
FAZ assured their dedication to preserving the integrity of Zambian football, stating that the potential repercussions of a FIFA ban include the exclusion of Zambian teams from international events,
FAZ stated that that their primary goal is to ensure that teams including the Copper Queens, Chipolopolo, and the under-17 girls, do not miss out on their participation in major events, including the Olympic Games and FIFA World Cup qualifiers. However, they warn that if Zambia continues down the litigious path embraced by non-FAZ members, FIFA sanctions are inevitable. The association said it is committed to finding a solution that complies with both national and FIFA regulations to avoid sanctions.
FIFA has given FAZ until 30 April to provide all necessary information before making a decision. FAZ is currently in talks with stakeholders to find a solution before FIFA intervenes.
The statement concludes with an appeal to football fans to remain calm as FAZ works to navigate through the crisis.
